How exciting! I was a fresh graduate in the summer of 2012 with the world at my doorstep. Freshly inspired, ready to be hired, I wanted to change the world through a poster and attractive typography! Alas, everything I had been working for was finally paying off and I can say that I was a “Professional Graphic Designer”. I had met Eric Reifschneider, owner of the DollarSaver, with my friend Lane for lunch. By the time I took my last bite of potato salad, I was being told what time I will start the following Monday. The DollarSaver, while it is not the most glamorous job, was feeding me and putting gas in my car. I was able to squeeze out just enough experience to lead me to my next career move. I remember having moments where I would whisper to myself, “I’m getting paid for this!”
The DollarSaver, Graphic Design
Pictured above is the first issue I produced independently during my employment at The DollarSaver. This job allowed me to tie in various techniques I learned in school and apply it to a real world situation. I was responsible for client follow-ups, proofing, basic office administrator skill while meeting deadlines. I learned how to balance accurate technical skills with organized creativity. With subscriptions into several 1000, my work was publicly available in printed and digital formats.
My first "Big Girl" desk. Even though I was only working 30 hours a week making $10 an hour, I could still call myself a professional Graphic Designer.
Back-To-School 2013
This pallet was delivered to the same location where I would edit the publication. After the drop off, I would then set aside the issues to be sent to the post office while dividing out the remainders to be distributed to several stand located around multiple locations around the city.
