Once I arrived at PIP Printing it was as if my career really shifted gears. working at a print shop allowed my technical skills to really develop and blossom into a graphic design genie. The day-to-day structure was very rigid and at times very unforgiving. Having to serve clients from various organizations, businesses and personal requests required a fine balance of administrative, technical and customer service skills.

I will forever be grateful for the work experience and professional relationships that I gained while being employed at PIP Printing of Greenville, NC. The owner, Donald Stocks, will forever top the list of the type of boss to have. He hustled like no other business man I have seen, cared about his customers and encouraged his employees to take chances. I was able to learn about various types of printed materials that would provide solutions for many types of customers. Learning the business side of things really inspired me in my creative process by exposing me to newer types of obstacles such as budgets, project management, prepress among several other skills.

Invitations and Swatches Pictured above is what my desk looked like at the end of a very busy day. Notes, swatches, sample invitations, scrap paper, all essential tools for creating the perfect design.

Tryon Palace

Working as a graphic designer you have the opportunity to work with such a variety of people, ideas and businesses. Among the various projects and job requests I had the privilege to work on, one of my favorites, and one that I am most proud of, are the Tryon Palace exhibits. From project management, graphic design and customer service, I provided the Registrar of Collections multiple reasons why they would want to return for my services. The contact from the museum would provide me a multiple paged word document as well as a deadline and I would provide proofs and edits in order to meet their deadline. Since Tryon Palace was not close by, we would outsource the dozens of panels then request them to be drop-shipped to Tryon Palace. The over all process would take multiple phases all while providing servies to other customers as well as participate in other administrative responsibilities.
